Thomas William HOUSTON was born in Hackney (Hackney Q3-1885 1B:476) to Frederick E and Susan J HOUSTON (née GIBBINS) of 6 Tottenham Road, Hackney.
1891 census...Aged , he was at 6 Tottenham Road, Hackney with his father Frederick HOUSTON [30]Baker born Camden Town; his mother Susan J [31] born Devonshire; brother Henry F [7] and sister Susan J [2]. The three children all born in Hackney. 1901 census...He has yet to be identified in this census, His parents were at 21 Blomfield Street with his brothers Henry F [18] an engineer and Fred W [16] parcel boy at newsagents, and sister Susan Married Beatrice Augusta RUSSELL on 5th July 1908 at Dalston Holy Trinity. 1911 census...Aged 25 he was a Messenger living at 54 Richmond Road, Dalston, London with his wife Beatrice [27] and 2 sons, Frederick [1] and Thomas [1 month]. All were born in London. On October 15th 1914, at Holy Trinity, Dalston there was the baptism of two more sons,James Samuel [15-2-1912] and George Albert [4-7-1914 -1927]. They were resident at 33 Mayfield Road CWEGC have his widow Beatrice A. HOUSTON at 104 Hawksley Road, Stoke Newington, London. They had four sons and two daughters, Nellie Beatrice born Hackney (1916-2003) and May Lilian born Newmarket (1918-2007). In the absence of Army records (even "Soldiers Died" does not have him) it is impossible to add to this except the absence of his entry in the Medal Card index may mean he never actually served overseas. He died in the General Hospital, Cambridge. From his war gratuity it appears he was called up about June 1917. |
